Texas Real Estate License Education

What are the requirements for a license?

Everyone has to complete 180 hours or 6 30-hour courses of education. Those hours are distributed across 6 required topics.
  1. Principles of Real Estate I
  2. Principles of Real Estate II
  3. Law of Agency
  4. Law of Contracts
  5. Promulgated Contracts
  6. Real Estate Finance
What Is The Exam Prep For?
The 6 required courses meet the education requirements set by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). The Exam Prep course helps bring those courses together to help you pass the state exam. We highly recommend you take a good prep course.

Can I take the courses individually instead of a package?
Yes, of course! The package is the best way to save money overall but you can always purchase each course individually and pay as you go.

Do All Schools Have The Same Courses?
Essentially. TREC has created specific outlines for the six (6) required courses. This means that all schools are using the same base for their courses. Instead of a school telling you how good their courses are, take a look at their pass rates. If you can't use their courses to pass the exam, what good are they? Whatever provider you are considering, take a look at how well their students do on the exam.

How Do I Know You Are Legit?
We have worked very hard through a convoluded TREC process to become a Texas Qualifying Education Provider. It is our duty to bring you high quality education for you to get your Texas Real Estate License. If you still don't believe us, here is our official approval letter from TREC.

What are the differences between real-ce and more expensive courses?
If you would like to pay more for the same 6 courses, but you are free to. The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) has mandated all providers use the same outline and delivery standards for their courses. So the content and delivery of the courses are essentially the same. We keep our costs low so we can pass the savings along to you.

What If I Never Finished High School?
There is no requirement for having your High School Diploma. You do however, have to be 18 years old to sit for the State exam.

What If I Am Licensed In Another State?
Texas does not have reciprocity with any other states. While you could be exempt from taking the National section of the state exam, you would still have to take all of the six (6) required courses.

What If I Have A Law degree?
At one point in time, you would be exempt from some of the required hours. Those days are long gone. All sales agent applicants must complete the required education.

What If I Have Gotten Into A Little Trouble In The Past?
Who hasn't? It doesn't have to be the end of the world. Luckily, TREC has a form for that. Send in this Moral Character Determination Form along with $50. TREC will then let you know whether you will be eligible for a license. As a general rule, financial or theft type crimes will disqualify you. DWI type stuff generally do not.

Can I Take The Courses One At A Time?
Of course! It will cost you a little more money in the long run but you definitely have that option. Start with Principles of Real Estate I and move through the requirements from there.

I'm adopted and the state pays for my schooling. Do you do that or do I have to pay out of my pockets?
You will need a credit card to pay for the courses. Many programs will reimburse you for those costs but you should check with the program that you qualify for.

Can I use the GI Bill for my courses?
First, Thank you for your service. Second, normally the GI Bill cannot be used for the courses. The GI Bill is normally used for a College or University. You should check with the VA on if they will reimburse you for the courses.

Can I do the courses, the application process and take the test before becoming a resident?
You are welcome to take the courses and complete the education before you can become a resident. You would need to be a resident in order to submit the application. Sometimes just having a Texas address will qualify as proof of being a Texas resident.

How do I find a Broker?
That's the easy part. Once you are licensed, you will have to have a Broker sponsor your license in order for you to be considered "active." Finding a broker is easy. Just contact brokers in the area that you want to work and compare their compensation plans. Everyone is different.
